With warm weather approaching now is a good time to explore spinning cellulose fibers. We will be looking at both the naturally occurring cellulose fibers such as cotton and flax and the man made cellullostics like bamboo and tencel. We will also spin blends of these fibers.

Yea! By popular demand, Beginning Sewing is back. Learn sewing basics while creating these cute, comfy, stylish, lounge pants. You can make them plain or add piping and/or a band of coordinating fabric You will learn all the basics: cutting out fabric, following a pattern, sewing on a machine and much much more. And the class is very fun too!

You will review how to read a pattern, practice casting on/off and learn how to cable and so much more. And you will make this cool, cable hat. Wow!

Do you love knitting lace patterns? Well, knitting lace with your own handspun is even better. Imagine that! In this class you will learn how to spin finely, what fibers to pick, and how to figure out the weight and yardage of the actual yarn you are spinning. You will try a sampling of yummy fibers like silk, silk blends, alpaca, and wools to see how they work as lace yarn. (And you can spin your yarn for the Aeolian Shawl class!)

Join us for a summer knit-one-one Scarf and Scarf Party. At this party we will eat, drink, make merry and get started on a summery scarf. It is the Jubilee, created by Norah Gaughan. It is a fabulous creation made up of not only a wonderfully airy lace like stitch but also cables----or as Norah describes it "plaited texture". Lots to learn, lots of fun.

Are you terrified of dropping a stitch? Living in fear that taking out a few rows will lead to a bigger mess? In this class Kira will show you how most common mistakes are made, how to fix them on the next row if possible, and how to safely take out as few stitches or rows as necessary. You'll also learn lots of tricks for avoiding making errors in the first place.

This cute shrug is the perfect Summer project. It mixes simple construction with both lace and short rows. And it is an excellent first garment project too. For more experienced knitters, it is a fast, fun, knit, made faster by all the hints and help you get from the fab Kira. It's ideal for small amounts of handspun or luxury yarn, and looks great layered over summer dresses or camisoles.

Rigid heddle weaving is sweeping the blogoverse and with good reason. The looms are easy to use and weaving is quick and produces a completely different fabric from knitting. Imagine. After this workshop you will be the proud owner of a woven scarf. You will learn: how to warp the loom, weave a header, create good selvages, do on-loom finishing techniques, finish your woven fabric and how to calculate yardage needs for projects. (You will also be learning a new vocabulary!)

Party time! You arrive with your needles and yarn in hand. We serve you food and the beverage of your choice. Then abracadabra, the fun begins. Kate tells you how many stitches to cast on. She gives you each subsequent instruction as needed. You and your friends are literally in stitches as you try to figure out what on earth you are knitting. The mystery is revealed at the end of the party.

Both Maia and Brooke of Tactile Fiber Arts love the Aeolian and the earlier Laminaria shawl. Elizabeth Freeman is the creator of these 2 wonders. (The Aeolian was featured in the Spring 2009 Knitty.) Both patterns feature two sizes and work well in handspun or commercially spun lace yarn. You can choose to work on either of these fabulous patterns. With the expert guidance of our lace guru, Maia, you will work through the cast on, the bind off and the various charts for the patterns. These charts look intimidating but under Maia's guiding hand, you will be an expert in no time!

If you want a stress-free knitting challenge, it is great. If you want to hone your Fair Isle skills, Carrie is most definitely your woman. A great teacher and a fabulous project—a perfect combo.
